METAL AT THE MUSEUM

Sabaton’s passionate outreach project has hit a huge milestone – and, with music rights waived, the participating museums get to keep the money. John Ash reports

Regular readers of Britain at War will likely remember our interview with the Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton and the fact its members have an incredible passion for military history and incorporate the subject matter into their music. It will come as little surprise then, that the band has worked to produce an aminated film based on its World War One-themed album, The War To End All Wars, which reached number 16 in the UK’s OCC Official Albums Chart. Moreover, where will Sabaton premiere the film? In more than 100 museums.

As part of the History Rocks initiative, the band has reached out to museums in 27 countries and territories, with more than 100 having confirmed their participation – with more being added to the list. Each will screen the film between November 4 and 19, 2023, in the two weeks surrounding the 105th Armistice Day. It stands as a testament to the profound impact of the unification of music and history to inspire and educate audiences worldwide, the band says.
