The 74th anniversary of Normandy came and went. The Utah and Omaha beaches were heaving with enthusiasts in their vehicles and there were lots of fabulous displays at Carentan, St Marie Du Mont and Dead Man’s Corner.

Ste Mere Eglise as always turned itself into a Norman Disneyland. The British sector was quieter; the 40 or so British veterans who took part in a windswept Arromanches ceremony were given a fantastic welcome but sadly, several of our regular veterans have left us since last year.

But the real buzz this month was from those who had been to the annual Dutch Militracks event. For German World War Two vehicles only, it is, by all reports, an incredible event. Saumur took their King Tiger, which says something for the status of the show. Militracks is a show where driving and riding the vehicles is very much encouraged. Mike Gibb took his newly-restored World War One Renault FT17 tank much to the delight of the 18,000 visitors.

Under the hammer this month was the very last of the MOD DUKW spare parts. These were sold through Withams and the total price realised was more than double than had been expected. The vast majority of the spares have gone to enthusiastic buyers …
