The Jeep in your garage could be worth more than you think

The world has gone mad. A Jeep, at best described as possibly ‘ran when parked’, in a UK farm auction and with no documents, topped a staggering and frankly absurd £25,000. This wasn’t a classic car sale, where buyers are seduced by glossy brochures and a nice venue. What is scary is that there was also an under-bidder who felt this Jeep was worth more than double its real value.

This particular Jeep was certainly a restoration project and if the new owner restores it, he will have to wait a long time to be able to get his money back.

But in the past few months we have seen lots of Jeeps from private sellers come onto the market at more than £20,000. If you go to an established Jeep specialist and you want a Jeep that has been properly restored and with a degree of warranty you will need to budget for at least £25,000. At last the humble Jeep is starting to reflect its true value, with good but older restorations consistently demanding – and getting - £18,000 upwards.
